Hedge selected in NWSL draft
Kelcie Hedge, who played her first two high school seasons at Post Falls, was selected in the first round of the 2020 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Draft with the ninth overall pick by Reign FC of Seattle.
Hedge played her final three collegiate seasons at Santa Clara after playing as a freshman at the University of Washington.
After transferring to Santa Clara, Hedge started in all 64 games she played over three years while scoring 13 goals and adding 16 assists. This past season, she tied for the team lead and was 22nd in the nation with 10 assists, nabbing her second team All-West Region and second team All-WCC.
As a junior in 2018, Hedge was the WCC Player of the Year, a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist, first team All-America, first team All-West Region, and first team All-WCC. She was also named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman team at Washington in 2015.
As a sophomore at Post Falls in 2013, Hedge was named Gatorade Idaho Player of the Year in girls soccer. She didn’t play high school soccer her last two seasons because she was playing on various U.S. national teams.
- Two Washington State players were also drafted, Morgan Weaver was selected No. 2 overall by the Portland Thorns, and Averie Collins went at No. 17, the eighth pick in the second round, to the Washington Spirit.
Cougars announce 2020
football schedule
The Pac-12 Conference released its 2020 football schedule Thursday and Washington State will play seven games in Martin Stadium, including five Pac-12 games and a pair of nonconference contests.
The Cougars open the 2020 campaign on the road at Utah State, Sept. 5. The home slate begins Sept. 12 when WSU hosts Houston. The following week, Sept. 19, the battle of the Palouse returns as the Cougars host Idaho. The two teams have not met since 2016, a 56-6 WSU victory, increasing the Cougars’ all-time series advantage to 72-17-3.
Washington State opens Pac-12 Conference play with a pair of home games — Oct. 3 when the Cougars host California, followed by an Oct. 10 matchup against Utah.
WSU closes out its regular season by hosting Washington in the Apple Cup, Friday, Nov. 27. For the fourth time in five years, the game will be played the Friday following Thanksgiving.

Pierce sign with Australian pro team
Idaho women’s basketball standouts Mikayla Ferenz and Taylor Pierce are teaming up for the first time since March of 2019 after signing a contract with the Ringwood Hawks of the National Basketball League in Ringwood, Australia.
This is Pierce’s first professional contract and Ferenz’s second.
Ferenz currently plays for AB Contern of the Total League in Luxembourg. Currently Ferenz is averaging 24.6 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists per game, and 1.7 steals per game. AB Contern’s season is quickly coming to an end with just three games left to play.
Ringwood’s season will begin on April 18, with regular season games lasting until Aug. 8.
Ferenz, a native of Walla Walla, is the all-time leading scorer in Idaho women’s basketball history, with 2,466 points.
Pierce, a native of Carlsbad, Calif., holds the NCAA Division I record for most three-pointers made in a single season with 154 last season. She made 472 3-pointers during her career at Idaho, a program record. Ferenz made 415 3s.
The pair combined for 4,400 total points.
