The crowd at Libby High School erupted in the afternoon hours of Jan. 11.

Cael Schwindt, wrestling at 103 pounds, who had narrowly escaped being pinned by his opponent in the early part of the match, turned the tables, pinning Polson High School’s Braedon Iliff.

The contest between Schwindt and Iliff opened an afternoon of wrestling, featuring grapplers from Libby, Polson and Ronan.

Polson emerged with victories over both Libby and Ronan. Libby soundly defeated Ronan, 51-12.

Dean Thompson, coach of the Libby Greenchain, said this year’s team is young and learning.

He said Aydan Williamson, wrestling at 285, has been a strong contributor to the young team. Williamson won both his matches Saturday.

Thompson also praised the wrestling of Schwindt, Trey Thompson, with two pins, and Xander Spady.

“Xander Spady had two great wins for us against tough opponents,” he said.
