Prep roundup: ML’s Washburn completes ‘Iron Man’ for third year in a row

YAKIMA — Moses Lake junior Zach Washburn has a penchant for making the spectacular seem routine.
Washburn won the 100 backstroke (53.61) and 100 butterfly (52.33) during Moses Lake’s double dual against Eisenhower and Davis. In addition to winning both events, Washburn recorded state qualifying times to complete the “Iron Man” — qualifying for every event at the state meet — for the third consecutive year.
As a team, Moses Lake handled Eisenhower 116-66 and Davis 141-23. The Chiefs won all three relays and had a host of individual winners.
Nick Moore held off teammate Tanner Patten to win the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 18.22 seconds; Moore also won the 500 freestyle. Cole Lindberg (200 individual medley), Dylan Bond (100, 50 freestyle), Jace Truman (diving) and Kaden Pack (100 breaststroke) also won events.
Moses Lake improved to 3-1 in the Columbia Basin Big Nine and will travel to swim against Eastmont next week to determine the second-best team in the league.
Boys wrestling
Moses Lake 53, Wenatchee 12
WENATCHEE — Moses Lake won 11 out of a possible 14 matches and cruised by Wenatchee 53-12.
“Boys wrestled well,” head coach Jaime Garza said. “We won the matches that we should have.”
Max Zamora won by technical fall over eighth-ranked Leo Gutzwiler 19-3 and Hunter White won by decision against Oscar Martinez 6-2. Andrew Kile took No. 11 Lucas Carranza to the brink, but lost 11-8.
Everett Ashley added to he robust pin total; All but one of Ashley’s wins this season have come by fall.
“He’s just a pinning animal,” Garza said.
Saul Villa, Jeremiah Martinez and Camron Regan also won by fall.
Girls basketball
Moses Lake Christian 47, Cascade Christian 16
MOSES LAKE — McKenna Meise outscored Cascade Christian by herself in a 47-16 Moses Lake Christian win.
Meise scored a game-high 17 points with five steals. Kali Kast had 12 points and Jocelyn Lloyd added eight.

MOSES LAKE — Haley Rogers nearly bowled 200 in a game but Moses Lake was swept by Eastmont 4-0.
Despite Rogers’ 193 pin total in the first game, the Wildcats won 821-685. Kylee Christie added 146 pins for the Chiefs. Eastmont edged Moses Lake in the second game 767-732. Christie led the way with 178 pins and Rogers scored 161.
Eastmont won the baker games 164-126 and 150-146.
