Timberlake wrestlers roll in War of the Waters

SPIRIT LAKE — Caleb Miller (160 pounds), Brayden Herbert (126), Evan Howell (145) and Paul Shaner (152) had pins for Timberlake in a 62-18 dual victory over the Priest River Spartans in the War of the Waters spirit dual on Thursday at Timberlake High.
The dual was in conjunction with the Battle for the Buck spirit basketball games, to be held on Saturday at Priest River.
Joey Follini (195) and Nicky Follini (120) won by major decision for Timberlake, which hosts the Van Tuinstra Duals tournament starting today at 5 p.m.
Priest River competes in the Clearwater Classic in Lewiston starting today at Booth Hall.

FRENCHTOWN, Mont. — Gavin Tuttle pinned Belgrade’s Logan Linn in 1:50 to clinch a win for Lake City over Belgrade in the first of two duals at Frenchtown High.
Lake City beat Belgrade 33-31, then lost 38-36 to Frenchtown.
Matthew Whitcomb (182) and Tuttle (152) each had two pins for Lake City in the duals.
Both teams will compete in the Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic today and Saturday at Sentinel High in Missoula.

PLUMMER — The host Knights poured in 49 points in the first quarter en route to the North Star League victory over the Tigers at Ron Miller Court.
Emmitt White hit all 3 of his 3-pointers in the first quarter for Lakeside (9-0, 5-0 NSL), which hit six of its seven 3s in the opening eight-minute period.
“I think we missed like two shots in the quarter,” Lakeside coach James Twoteeth said. “Everything we threw up went in ... it was crazy.”
Talon Twoteeth scored a game-high 20 points for Lakeside, ranked No. 1 in 1A Division II in this week’s statewide media poll. Kenyon Spotted Horse added 16 points, White 15, Day Day Higgins 14.
Samuel Hess scored 10 points for Mullan (3-6, 1-4), which travels to Kootenai on Tuesday.
Lakeside plays host to Genesis Prep, which beat the Knights the last two seasons for the district’s lone berth to state, on Tuesday.

KELLOGG — Senior Gavin Luna scored 24 points — 15 in the second half — and grabbed 13 rebounds, and the host Wildcats shrugged off a slow start to beat the Miners in nonleague play at Andrews Gymnasium.
Graden Nearing scored eight early points for Kellogg (6-4), then picked up two fouls and sat the rest of the half. He finished with 17 points.
“Kevin Walker came in (for Nearing) and did a nice job on the defensive end,” said Kellogg coach Jeff Nearing, Graden’s father.
Brandon Miller chipped in eight points and five assists for Kellogg.
Carter Bailey hit two 3-pointers and scored 10 of his 15 points in the first quarter for Wallace (5-5). Bailey helped the Miners take a 16-13 lead after one quarter, before the Wildcats pulled away from a two-point halftime lead in the second half.
“Wallace came out ready to play,” Nearing said. “It’s a rivalry game, and they were pretty pumped up. Once we shook the rust off, with all these snow days, we started to settle down.”
Wallace returns to action next Thursday at Genesis Prep.

PLUMMER — Ashlee Holt scored 12 points for the Knights in a North Star League win over the Tigers at Ron Miller Court.
“Ashlee just had a good game overall,” Lakeside coach Chris Dohrman said. “She shot the ball really well and has the ability to score. I’d like to see her be a little more aggressive, but she’s got some ability. It was a good team win. The girls played really well together.”
Kria Peters and Tamara Anderson scored 11 points each for Lakeside (9-3, 5-0 NSL), which hosts Genesis Prep on Tuesday.
Talowa Fallingwater scored 18 points, Emily Dykes had seven points and seven rebounds for Mullan (2-9, 0-5), which travels to Kootenai on Tuesday.
“Our girls worked hard and never gave up,” Mullan coach Sherry Leitz said. “Hats off to the Lady Knights and coach Dohrman on a great game.”

Due to a lack of workers, Saturday’s North Star League boys and girls games between Lakeside and host Clark Fork have been postponed. The girls game will be made up on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The boys game has been rescheduled for Feb. 18.
Kootenai’s boys and girls games at Clark Fork, postponed on Tuesday, have been rescheduled for Feb. 4 at Clark Fork. Kootenai’s boys and girls home games with Clark Fork, originally scheduled for Feb. 4, were rescheduled for Feb. 8.
Lakeland will travel to Moscow in 4A Inland Empire League girls basketball on Wednesday at 6. That game has been rescheduled twice due to snow.
