With winter having finally arrived, there is a flurry of snow centered activities going on at Pine Street Woods.

Daily grooming for cross country skiing, fat biking and snow shoeing has kicked into full gear making these all-ability level trails readily accessible to the community, Sandpoint Nordic Club officials said in a press release.

The Outdoor Recreation Center at Pine Street Woods is open on Saturdays and Sundays offering cross country ski and snowshoe rentals, as well as the upcoming Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, Jan 20. It’s also a great place to take a break, switch into and out of your gear, and warm up.

Grab a friend and come explore the winter wonderland on the trails at Pine Street Woods. Please remember the narrow trails are for snow biking, snowshoeing, and dog walking, while most of the wide trails are for skiing only.

As soon as the groomer was able to make its first tracks around Pine Street Woods, skis were not far behind. Sandpoint Nordic Club is busy with a number of activities and events getting area youth and adults outside and on skis.

The SNC Youth Ski Team is made up of 65 skiers ranging from their first-time ever on skis to youth racing in regional events. Tuesdays are filled with laughter and exploration by local school groups exploring the trails on skis and snowshoes through a program offering gear free of charge. Two Learn to Ski days are also being offered this season for adults and families looking to try cross country skiing.

The next Learn to Ski day will be on Saturday, Feb. 8, with a beginner lesson and ski gear rental for only $10. Register your spot on sandpointnordic.com

In addition to grooming cross country ski trails at Pine Street Woods, SNC is also grooming a new trail system on Lakeshore Drive. These trails offer beautiful big meadow skiing as well as tree covered trail and are geared to all ability levels. This is another great option to get out and enjoy this winter wonderland.
