THE FRONT ROW WITH JASON ELLIOTT: Fire Pete? Snow way! It could be worse

Sometimes it is just best to stay off social media following a tough loss.

Especially those that wind up ending a playoff run.

So you might understand a little when instead of opting to watch highlights of the Seahawks’ most recent playoff loss to Green Bay, my focus quickly turned to shoveling snow.

Shoot, there was plenty of it.

DEPENDING ON the time of day, some fans wanted to see Seahawks coach Pete Carroll fired after another lackluster first-half showing where the team found itself trailing 21-3 with no answer in sight.

That probably won’t happen.

Carroll has only missed the playoffs in two seasons since coming to Seattle from USC over a decade ago.

Sure, it might be a little frustrating watching games from time to time, but face facts, folks.

There was once a time when Seattle could get out of the wild-card round, so this is a great time to be a fan.

Back before the Seahawks advanced to their first Super Bowl in franchise history, many fans wanted to see Mike Holmgren get fired after a couple of losing seasons.

Seattle advanced to the playoffs in its final season in the Kingdome in 1999, lost to Miami and didn’t return until the Seahawks advanced to face Green Bay in 2003.

Seattle got back to the postseason the following year, but again lost in the wild-card round in 2004 — at home — to the St. Louis Rams on a dropped pass on the final play of the game.

The next year, Seattle went on a run for the ages and got to the Super Bowl following the 2005 season, and made the playoffs again in 2006 and 2007 before missing the playoffs in Holmgren’s final season in 2008. Pretty sure nobody wanted to see Holmgren leave after that.

TO CARROLL’S credit, when the Seahawks have advanced to the playoffs, they’ve won at least once before getting knocked out.

Even in a season when the team went 7-9 and really had no business in the postseason, Seattle advanced and found ways to be competitive.

For whatever reason, Seattle hasn’t been able to win games on the road, no matter where they might be.

Holmgren got a team to the playoffs that went 2-6 on the road, but a perfect 8-0 at home if you can imagine that.

With Carroll leading the team to a 7-1 road mark this year, it appears that those issues have been resolved. Going 4-4 at home, with losses to New Orleans, Baltimore, Arizona and San Francisco is a little troubling, but the last time I checked, three of those four were pretty good this year.

Replacing Carroll now will set the team back a few years from where it was this season, which was a few plays from another NFC Championship Game.

Some teams, they’ve been watching from home for almost just wishing they had a chance to lose in game like Sunday’s in Green Bay.

Don’t forget that.
