MOSES LAKE — Over a hundred men, women and children, black and white, of varied faiths and creeds came together Monday night to fill the Moses Lake Civic Center auditorium in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.

The celebration, organized by the city Dr. Martin Luther King Committee, included scripture and prayer, as well as song and dance from faith communities across Moses Lake. Prizes were also awarded for elementary schoolers for an essay contest judged by grade level. The crowd was significantly larger than in previous years, growth that organizers said they hoped to be able to match in the future.

The night’s main speaker, Brother Glen Hughes, spoke on the religious teachings of MLK Jr., while Rev. Plasido Lindsey delivered the famous “I Have a Dream” speech from the 1963 March on Washington.

Committee members in charge of organizing included President Charlie Jones, Vice President Miranda Bridges, Fundraiser Director Betty Spells, Treasurer Dmitry Marushchak, Treasurer Assistant Deandrae Jones and Secretary Luz Diaz.
