Montana Rice scored early for the Troy Lady Trojans but Methuselah aged a bit before the team scored again during a Jan. 17 matchup with Lincoln County High School.

The game turned out to be a lopsided loss at home to the Eureka Lady Lions from Lincoln County High School.

The Lady Lions led 40–2 at halftime. The final score was 60–7.

Troy’s Talise Becquart scored five points in the second half. She was Troy’s high scorer.

The Lady Lions hit the Lady Trojans early with a full court press. Swarming like bees, they stung the Troy team repeatedly, forcing them into turnover after turnover. The press yielded some easy baskets for Eureka but the Lady Lions also nailed some three-point shots.

Eureka took mercy and backed off in the second quarter. But the turnovers continued apace as the rattled Lady Trojans attempted unsuccessfully to penetrate the Lady Lions’ zone.

Nearly everyone in the Troy Activity Center seemed relieved when the final buzzer sounded.

The Troy High School boys varsity team fared better than the girls but still lost by a wide margin to Lincoln County High School’s varsity squad. The final score was 65–28.

Turnovers also bedeviled the Trojans and the Eureka Lions hit several three-point shots that helped extend their lead.

Eureka’s AJ Pacella scored the game’s first three points with a long distance shot. He hit another three-pointer at the buzzer ending the first quarter, pushing the score to 14–2.

Pacella was the contest’s leading scorer, with 15 points.

The high scorer for Troy was Moxley Roesler-Begalke, with eight.
