Irene Sophie Krockmeyer, 86

Irene Krockmeyer passed away into an eternal sleep on Jan. 13, 2020, at 9:21 a.m. in the Hospice of North Idaho Schneidmiller House.

Irene was born in Wiesbaden, Germany, on April 4, 1933, to her parents, Adolf and Wilhelmine Kroeller. In 1953, she married Werner Joseph (Vern) Krockmeyer. They soon after emigrated from Germany to Alberta, Canada.

After living there, they moved to Nelson, British Columbia, where I showed up in 1969, her only son, Darren Eric Krockmeyer. In 1971 we immigrated to the United States and lived in Lake Tahoe, Calif., until moving here to Post Falls in 1979.

Irene was preceded in death by Adolf and Wilhelmine. She is survived in death by Vern, Darren and her daughter-in-law Margarita Maria Krockmeyer (whom she absolutely adored).

My biggest heartfelt thanks for making her as comfortable as possible to everyone at Kootenai Health, the Life Care Center of Coeur d’Alene, Crest Home Health, the palliative care staff, the Hospice House of North Idaho, the Bell Tower Funeral Home, and most of all Margarita for the care and love you gave her in-home.

Irene smiled with her eyes closed and told us how grateful she was to have done so many things … seeing Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, Tony Bennett, so many others from the “good old days.” Her trips to visiting friends in Palm Springs in the desert, Hawaii, Alaska, the Caribbean. She was grateful to always work; she loved her job at Hagadone Hospitality. I have fond memories of getting out of school, then we would take the boat out to the lake to pick her up at 5 after work, with her once-a-day 5 p.m. martini ready.

That is how she wanted to be remembered, and that is how we will always remember her. Rest in peace, Irene Sophie Krockmeyer …
