The Whitefish World Invitational Ski Joring event set for Saturday, Jan. 25, and Sunday, Jan. 26, has been canceled due to an unfavorable forecast of warmer temperatures and rain.
Skijoring is a traditional Winter Carnival event that pairs a horse and rider with a skier being pulled through a course that includes gates, hitting jumps and grabbing rings. The duo with the fastest time wins.
The Whitefish skijoring event had been set to take place at Big Mountain Ranch off Voerman Road, but organizers on Monday announced they would be canceling.
The event will not be rescheduled.
“We appreciate the outstanding support of our sponsors, vendors, competitors and the community and look forward to an outstanding event in 2021,” organizers said in a post on Facebook.
The forecast for the weekend is calling for rain and highs in the mid-40s, according to the National Weather Service in Missoula.
