Philip Donald Broesch, 75

Philip Donald Broesch passed away on Jan. 16, 2020. He was born at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane, Wash., on Aug. 23, 1944, to Donald and Frances (Brown) Broesch.

He graduated from David Douglas High School in Portland, Ore., in 1962. After graduation, Phil proceeded to enlist in the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. After an honorable discharge from the military, he attended Lewis-Clark Police Academy, in Lewiston, Idaho, in 1967, and was part of the first class to graduate from there.

Phil proudly served the citizens of Idaho for more than 30 years as a law enforcement officer. He retired from the Idaho State Police in 1996 after 28 years of service. During his career, Phil was honored to receive certificates for the upstanding services he provided during the Teton Dam breach in 1976, and his heroic rescue of a Bonners Ferry family from a fire in 1979.

On Jan. 7, 1967, Phil married his lifetime partner, Janet A. Srnsky, in Lewiston. During their 53 years of marriage they had four children: Jerry (Kim), Tim, Charlotte (Larry) and Randy (Angella). Their children have further blessed the family with six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Phil is also survived by his three brothers, Duane, James and Vince.

Phil was known to have a jovial demeanor and enjoyed sharing stories of his adventures, especially hunting and fishing tales. As a natural storyteller, Phil was able to narrate a story that would be sure to put a smile on your face and leave a lasting impression. His stories and laughter will be forever cherished by the ones who love and miss him.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 625 E. Haycraft Ave., Coeur d’Alene, with a reception to follow, at the American Legion Hall, 1138 E. Poleline Ave., Post Falls. Those who knew him are welcome to attend both events to celebrate his life.
