I grew up in the Tri-Cities, Wash., and have always loved to write. I attended the University of Washington, where I earned a double major in journalism and political science, with an area of emphasis in history. I am the fifth out of six kids — don't believe any of the stories that my siblings tell. To be able to tell others stories and take photos for a living is a dream come true — and I considered myself blessed to be a community journalist. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, hiking and spending time outdoors, genealogy, reading, and watching the UW Huskies and the Seattle Seahawks. I am a servant to my cat, Frankie, who yes, will eat anything and everything in sight … even wedding cookies. | January 22, 2020 12:00 AM

Butler

SPIRIT LAKE — A Boise man is behind bars and facing up to a dozen charges after a pursuit originating in Spokane County led to the discovery of a large amount of cash, more than 10 pounds of marijuana and other drugs, and a stolen gun.

Jarred Lee Butler, 36, of Boise, was arrested in the 37000 block of Highway 41 following the pursuit.

He faces charges of possession of controlled substances, felon in possession of a firearm, felony eluding, trafficking controlled substances, resisting/obstructing arrest, possession of stolen property, and a felony arrest warrant. Butler appeared in court Tuesday, where a preliminary hearing date was set for Jan. 29 in First District Court.

The arrest stems from a pursuit by Idaho State Police, which began in Spokane County, crossed through Kootenai County and entered Bonner County northbound on Highway 41 from Spirit Lake, according to a Bonner County Sheriff’s Office press release.

BCSO deputies deployed spike strips in the Blanchard area, which flattened two tires of the vehicle, which was already being driven with a flat tire. However, BCSO officials allege in the press release that Butler continued north on Highway 41 with speeds ranging between 35 and 70 mph.

The BMW drove erratically and several times crossed over the center line, forcing oncoming traffic to pull to the roadside to avoid a collision, sheriff’s officials said in the press release. Because the vehicle was a threat to public safety and was the pursuit was approaching the city of Oldtown, BCSO officials said a decision was made to use a pursuit intervention technique maneuver to end the pursuit.

The PIT maneuver was conducted by the lead BCSO unit, bringing the vehicle to a stop along Highway 41 near Old Priest River Road. The driver fled on foot and was apprehended shortly thereafter.

Deputies located a large amount of cash, a stolen firearm, 10 plus pounds of marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine, mushrooms, and LSD.
