QUINCY – The Quincy Recreation Department is offering a series of four classes aimed at young adults, ages 15 to 25 years old. The classes, presented by local professionals, will teach young adults some of the skills they need to know to navigate life after high school.

The classes are a result of conversations that Quincy Recreation Director Russ Harrington has had over the past several years.

“They are topics that kids aren’t getting in school or at home,” Harrington said.

Harrington, who recently helped his son through the process of high school graduation and leaving home, is wanting to help make that information available to young adults in the community.

“Numerous communities are teaching classes,” Harrington said. “I decided we were just going to do it.”

The topics in the first set of classes include financial planning, insurance and household and car maintenance. The classes will be taught by individuals who deal with the subjects on a daily basis and can help students understand the real-world applications.

“There are things I’ve run across in my life, that if I had known, would have made my life easier,” Harrington said, “Let’s talk about those topics.”

After the initial four classes, Harrington hopes to continue doing the series of classes and adding new topics.

“I don’t think it will be a one-time thing,” he said.

The classes will start on Tuesday, Jan. 28, and will run every other Tuesday through March 10. To register or to learn more about the Young Adult Living classes, call the Quincy Recreation Department at 787-3523, ext. 9, or email [email protected].
