NEWPORT — Marty Lang went missing in July 2017. Last week, Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s officials said human remains found in November 2019 were those of Lang.
The circumstances surrounding Lang’s disappearance are considered suspicious and this case is still active, sheriff’s officials said.
Lang was last reported seen near his home on Scotia Road and was reported as a missing person on July 17, 2017.
Friends and family set up a Facebook page seeking information on Lang’s disappearance and offering a $5,000 reward.
According to media reports and the social media posts, Lang vanished after finishing a shift at work and conducting a few errands.
Forestry workers discovered the remains in a wooded area near Boundary Road in Metaline, Wash., on Nov. 12 in the Colville National Forest. Sheriff’s deputies responded to a wooded area near milepost 6 on Boundary Road, also known as Forest Service Road No. 2975, and confirmed the presence of skeletal remains and unspecified personal property.
Pend Oreille County deputies and the Washington State Patrol’s Criminal Investigation Team responded. They confirmed the remains were human, processed the scene, and collected evidence. The remains were sent to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office for analysis. After reviewing dental records, the Washington State Forensic Odontologist identified the remains as being Lang.
Anyone with information regarding Mr. Lang’s disappearance or death is encouraged to contact the Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Office at 509-447-1980.
