Prep roundup: Royal boys basketball falls to Cashmere

CASHMERE — Royal was unable to match Cashmere’s outside shooting and lost 58-31.

The Bulldogs sunk eight 3-pointers — four from leading scorer Nate Phillips — to outscore the Knights 24-3 from behind the arc. Phillips finished with a game-high 18 points and Sam Phillips added 14.

Royal fell into a hole early, trailing 19-4 after one quarter; Cashmere led 36-13 at halftime. The second half was more competitive as Royal was only outscored 22-18.

Tyler Allred and Cooper Christensen paced the Knights with eight points each. Royal returns to South Central Athletic Conference East play with a road game against Warden Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Girls basketball

Pateros 54, Moses Lake Christian 41

PATEROS — Moses Lake Christian suffered its first league loss of the season at Pateros 54-41.

Deana Gulenko scored 15 points and Kali Kast had 10.

Moses Lake Christian travels to Soap Lake for a non-league game today at 6 p.m.

Boys swimming

Moses Lake 114, Eastmont 61

EAST WENATCHEE — Moses Lake nailed down the No. 2 spot in the Columbia Basin Big Nine with a win at Eastmont 114-61.

The Chiefs won all three relays and a pair of swimmers won multiple events. Zach Washburn placed first in the 100 breaststroke and 50 freestyle; Dylan Bond won the 100 and 200 freestyle.

Isaac Patten was first in the 100 backstroke and Cole Lindberg won the 200 individual medley.

The Chiefs finished their dual schedule 4-1 and will host a league championship swim and dive meet Jan. 30.

Boys wrestling

Ephrata 45, Quincy 29

EPHRATA — Ephrata won its rivalry dual with Quincy 45-29.

The Tigers host Warden tonight at 6 p.m. and the Jacks host Othello on Jan. 28

Girls bowling

Moses Lake 3, Davis 1

YAKIMA — Moses Lake won both baker games to outlast Davis 3-1.

“A close one, just what we expected,” head coach Danny Stevenson said.

Behind 206 pins from Haley Rogers, Moses Lake won the first game 754-724. Kylee Christie added 161 pins to put the Chiefs over the top.

The Pirates evened the match with a 719-699 win in the next game. Rogers scored 176 in Game 2 and Sarah Devoll had 163 pins.

Moses Lake won both baker games 144-138 and 161-146 to take the match.
