A Post Falls man who faces rape and lewd conduct with a minor charges waived his probable cause hearing and will be arraigned next week.

Aaron T. Cain, 37, who is charged with three felonies including rape, sexual battery of a minor and lewd conduct with a minor — felonies that carry up to life in prison — will enter a plea Wednesday in Coeur d’Alene’s First District Court.

Cain is accused of having sexual relations with a 14-year-old and another girl who was 16 when he began a sexual relationship with her. That relationship continued until his arrest last month, according to court records.

Cain is in the Kootenai County jail on $250,000 bail.

Post Falls police learned of the relationships after one of the alleged victim’s family members found nude images on a cellphone. An investigation led to two possible victims. One of the girls accused Cain of twice raping her, according to police.

“The full scope of images on (the alleged victim’s phone) is overwhelming,” investigator Neil Uhrig wrote in a police report. “Just the iMessages alone between the parties is 9,115 pages in length.”

Police said images of pregnancy tests were also found on the phone.

The incidents go back to 2017, according to a criminal complaint filed by the prosecutor’s office.

Police last month tracked Cain to his job in Airway Heights, Wash., and attempted to use highway cameras to capture an image of his license plate as he made his way back to his Post Falls home.

But because Cain had been tracking one of the girls’ cellphones — and noticed that it had stayed at the Post Falls Police Department — he was alerted to his possible arrest and did not return home, police said. He was arrested several days later as he tried to stop by his house to get a change of clothing.

More than 1,000 nude images of Cain and one of the alleged victims were stored on one of the phones, police said.

Cain’s arraignment is set at 3 p.m. Wednesday before District Judge Cynthia K.C. Meyer.
