Free throw sharpshooters headed to state Elks Hoop Shoot

Four Bonners Ferry free-throw shooters who won their age classification in Sandpoint headed to the district Elks hoop shoot contest in Kellogg, Idaho.
Taren Bateman placed second in the girls 10-11 age bracket making 19 out of 25 free throw attempts. Peyton Hinthorn won the boys 10-11 age group, making 22 out of 25 shots.
Sydney Hinthorn tied for first in the girls 12-13 age group, making 16 of 25. She tied again making three out of five shots in the first shoot-off, but won the second shoot-off making all five shots. Asher Williams took second in the boys 12-13 age bracket making 23 out of 25 free throws.
The winners will move on to the Elks Hoop Shoot state finals on Feb. 8, in Grangeville, Idaho.

Lady Badgers struggle at Timberlake
SPIRIT LAKE — Taryn Soumas scored 17 points, including four 3-pointers, as she led the Timberlake Tigers to a 66-37 victory over the visiting Badgers on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Blayre Jeffs, a 6-foot-5 post, added 14 points for the Tigers, who are ranked #2 in the Idaho 3A state rankings.
Lady Badgers second at districts, fall to Teton in state play-in game
It was a busy week of travel for the Badgers as they played four away games in six days while traveling 1,442 miles.
