Scott Keller takes the Burnt Spoon for 2020

Scott Keller holds the “Burnt Spoon” trophy after being named the winner of the Eagles’ annual chili cook-off recently.

A group of more than 50 turned out for the annual Eagles “Hottest Day of the Year” Chili contest Saturday, Jan. 25. Contestants competed for prizes and the honor of adding their name to the “Burnt Spoon Award.
This year’s competition brought out nine contestants who prepared and cooked their special, sometimes spicy recipes. For the judges and the audience it all came to together at five with each contestant’s entry being brought out in small bowls with only letters attached so there was no way to determine who’s chili was being reviewed.
Last year’s “Burnt Spoon” winner, Brenda Albert was selected for the people’s choice award while the judges chose her chili as number two. Larry Hoover rounded out the top three. The “Burnt Spoon” Honors for 2020 was presented to Scott Keller. His name will be added to the plaque.
Proceeds from the annual fundraiser will be distributed between the School Backpacks for kids and the school lunch program helping give less fortunate students a better opportunity to learn.
