ST. MARIES — After some scorers from Timberlake got some good looks in the first half, the host St. Maries Lumberjacks clamped down defensively to earn a 57-47 nonleague win over the Tigers on Thursday.

Randie Becktel had 21 points and nine rebounds, Coleman Ross 10 points and 10 rebounds for St. Maries (11-4), which hosts Grangeville in a Central Idaho League game on Tuesday.

Jacob James scored 20 points, Jack McDonald 18 for Timberlake (2-12), which hosts Kellogg on Saturday.

“We let McDonald and James get loose early in the game,” St. Maries coach Bryan Chase said. “We did a better job of guarding in the second half and make them earn their shots. We made some adjustments defensively, and that seemed to help.”
