Bonner County Daily Bee | UPDATED 4 years, 9 months AGO
Summer Reading 2020 has begun at the West Bonner Libraries.
Kids grades K-6 can join the fun at the Priest River City Park at the west end of High Street every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. through July 28. The 2020 theme is “Imagine Your Story.” Area youth will get creative with Bigfoot, Peter Pan and pirates, the Pend Oreille Paddler, heroes, fairy tales and castles. Each program will feature stories, arts and crafts, a STEM activity and games. Register at http://westbonner.lili.org/summer-reading/ or at the Priest River or Blanchard libraries.
Kids grades 7-12 have two opportunities to win $25 Visa gift cards. Play Bookopoly and read for chances to win. Pick up a game card at the library or download one at http://westbonner.lili.org/summer-reading/. Return cards to the library by Aug. 31. The drawing will be held on Sept. 1.
Those going into grades 7-12 can let imaginations run wild by creating a fairy house and a story about its inhabitants. Grab and Go kits with materials will be available and participants are encouraged to add their own creative touches. A selection of live baby succulents will be available for landscaping. Imaginative establishments will be put on display at the library on July 31 and the winner will be chosen by popular vote.
For online fun, CIN libraries have partnered to offer Summer Reading online. Read for points, badges and prizes from now through August 31. This online summer reading portal is free to all. There are three age groups, Early Literacy (0-4), Kids (5-12) and Teens (13-19). Kids will earn badges when they reach each reading level and reaching certain levels will also increase reader’s entries into a drawing for special prizes at the end of the summer reading event. Register at http://summer.cinlibraries.org/.
Watch for the Kids Online Cooking Club on Mondays. Kids of all ages can join Christa as she prepares fast and fun treats. The Cooking Club videos can be found on the library’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/WestBonnerLibraries. Recipes are posted in the comments.
