KELLOGG — The Fourth of July is going to be a little different this year, but we already knew that — right?

Stark changes in what is and isn’t allowed have made this summer one folks already wish they could forget, but several local communities, including Kellogg, will have some part of their normal Independence Day, just not all of it.

Silver Mountain Resort will be hosting the annual fireworks show on Saturday night.

Silver Mountain’s marketing coordinator Gus Colburn believes the fireworks are necessary, whether it be as a reprieve for people who are struggling with the current global pandemic or an expression of American tradition.

"With all the uncertainty in the world, we're excited to keep the firework tradition going in our community," Colburn said.

There will be some activity in the Silver Mountain Resort Village in the afternoon, including Bombshell Sweets peddling cotton candy for folks who are down there.

That is really the extent of festivities in the Silver Valley; however, there are several places in North Idaho, including one other celebration in Shoshone County, that are holding other activities and fireworks shows.

Calder will be hosting a full day celebration, including a parade at 11 a.m., followed by live music at 6 p.m., and culminating with a fireworks show at dusk.

In Harrison, just 45 miles south of Kellogg, a full, daylong Fourth of July celebration will take place.

Hosted by the Harrison Chamber of Commerce, the small lakeside town will host family friendly festivities, including yard games at noon, vendors from 2 to 6 p.m., live music from 3 to 7 p.m. and fireworks at dusk.

In Spirit Lake, just 60 miles northwest of Kellogg, Spirit Lake is forging ahead with its 25th annual parade and park vendors, but will not have a fireworks show.

The parade starts at 11 a.m. and guides visitors to vendors, games, and live music in the park coordinated by Spirit Lake Visions.

Sandpoint, just 80 miles north of Kellogg, will be having a full day celebration as well, including a parade, park festivities, and fireworks show.

The parade is set for 10 a.m. and festivities are being held at Travers Park from noon to five.

The annual fireworks display over Lake Pend Oreille is set for 10 p.m.
