Number of COVID-19 cases rising

MOSES LAKE/OTHELLO — Grant County reported 114 new cases of COVID-19 between Monday, June 29, and Monday, July 6.
Mattawa had the biggest increase in cases last week, with 31 new cases, bringing its total to 170. Moses Lake had the second biggest increase with 25 new cases, for a total of 192. Royal City came in third with 21 new cases, bringing its total to 65.
Quincy added 14 new cases for a total of 166. Ephrata’s cases jumped from 38 on June 29 to 50 on July 6. Warden increased by nine, for a total of 20 cases. Soap Lake went from 15 to 17 confirmed cases. The rural part of Othello in Grant County stayed the same with eight cases, as did the Grand Coulee/Electric City area with three cases.
Currently, 16 people are hospitalized for COVID-19. No new deaths were reported this past week, leaving the total at six.
Of those confirmed cases in Grant County, 359 are male and 331 are female. Ninety-eight are between birth and 18 years old. In the 19- to 40-year-old range, 307 individuals have tested positive. Of those ages 41 to 60 years old, there are 196 individuals. In the 61- to 80-year-old age range, 78 people have gotten COVID-19. Of those 80 years old and older, 12 people have tested positive.
During the Monday evening update, Grant County Health District said on its website that the average turnaround time for COVID-19 tests is three days. However, tests can take from one to six days to process.
Adams County reported 50 new cases between Monday, June 29, and Monday, July 6, for a total of 186 cases. All of the news cases were in Othello, bringing the total number of cases in Othello to 176. Of the other 10 cases, five are in Ritzville, three are in Lind, one is in Washtucna and one is in Hatton.
One hundred twelve people in the county with confirmed cases have recovered.
Currently, no one is hospitalized or has died. So far, the county has sent out 1,348 cases. Of those, 985 have been positive. One hundred sixty-three tests are pending.
