Dolence’s grand slam helps Mariners split

The Mission Valley Mariners A team split games with both the Kalispell Lakers and the Bitterroot Sox last week.
After dropping the first game against the Sox Monday night, the Mariners rebounded to take a 15-3 victory over Hamilton. In the bottom of the second inning, Eric Dolence’s grand slam put Mission Valley up 7-3 early on. Dolence scored four runs, two hits and seven RBIs in the game.
The Mariners followed the high scoring second inning by scoring four runs in each of the next two innings, while holding the Sox scoreless for the remainder of the game.
On Wednesday July 1, Mission Valley hosted the Kalispell Lakers for two closely matched games. In the first game the Mariners had a difficult time hitting against pitcher Max Holden. Mission Valley was held scoreless in the game, losing 4-0.
For the second game of the evening, the teams were neck and neck for most of the game. The Mariners had a huge sixth inning, scoring five runs to put them on top of the Lakers, 7-2.
The Mariners are now 11-11 overall, and 5-7 in conference play for the season.
Coming up the Mission Valley Mariners B team will play in a tournament in Kalispell over the weekend and Tuesday, July 14 the A team hosts Libby for a home game.

Wood is charged with deliberate homicide in connection with the death of Thompson Falls resident Matthew LaFriniere in May 2018.
