Sara Houser: Promoting patriotism, preserving history

Meet Sara Houser, Idaho native born and raised in Post Falls where she graduated from high school in 2007. She’s been working in the medical field since spring of that year. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, baking with her nieces, attempting to quilt (still learning) or other random crafts. Been married to her husband Andrew since August of 2011.

Generation:

I was born in 1989, which would make me a Generation Y, also known as millennial. I don’t feel like I fit into the typical millennial stereotype. I find myself associating with parts of every generation vs. just the one.

Career and Community Involvement:

I currently work at Northern Idaho Advance Care Hospital in Post Falls, as a health unit coordinator and patient care technician. I have loved working in patient care for as long as I could remember, and I’m looking at going back to school to further my education.

Most of my community involvement currently comes from the Daughters of American Revolution, where I am a junior member within the Lt. George Farragut Chapter.

Parental Status:

My husband and I welcomed our first child on June 2 of this year. His name is Dawson and he is the love of our lives.

What is the Daughters of American Revolution, and why did you join?

The Daughters of American Revolution was founded in 1890, with our headquarters located in Washington, D.C. We are a nonprofit volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history and securing America’s future through better education.

I was officially welcomed into the DAR in June of 2014, and took my membership oath that September. I got involved as something to do with my grandmother once a month, but soon realized it was so much more than just that once-a-month meeting. It’s a family of amazing women who volunteer doing some of the most fun activities. Holiday cards for veterans, pancakes breakfast fundraisers, highway cleanups, community events for vets and group field trips to see historical sites around the area.

What does the Fourth of July mean to you?

Celebrating America’s independence and honoring the men and women who have fought for our freedoms.

What do you think America does best, and what can our country do better?

America allows everyone to follow their dreams, no matter what it may be. We could do better if we would put our personal differences aside and unite as one.

What is something people would be surprised to learn about you?

I am super shy until I get to know someone, then I am able to talk you ear off. I have such a caring heart and love helping others, and volunteering for organizations that I truly believe in.

If you could meet any of the Founding Fathers, or any American hero from the past, who would it/they be and why?

If I was able to meet any Founding Father it would have to be Martin Luther King Jr., having been such a big part of the Civil Rights movement with his nonviolent protest. I would like to ask his thoughts on everything going on in the country today.

It's got a groove. It's got a meaning. "Grease" is the way a crew of talented teenyboppers were feeling 28 years ago this summer when they brought the popular musical to the Lake City Playhouse stage. "When I was in 'Grease' is when I fell in love with the playhouse," Lake City Playhouse Artistic Director Brooke Wood said Wednesday.
