LEGION BASEBALL: Northern Lakes falls in opener of tourney in Whitefish

WHITEFISH, Mont. — Northern Lakes managed just one hit and committed four errors in a 9-1 loss to the host Glacier Twins in the Mountaineers’ opening game of the Sapa-Johnsrud Memorial Tournament on Thursday night.

Jacob Schaffner singled with one out in the fifth inning for Northern Lakes (13-3). Louis Powell, who was hit by a pitch, scored on a wild pitch in the fourth for the Mountaineers.

Northern Lakes struck out 10 times, eight by Zach Veneman in three hitless innings for Glacier. Jacob Polumbus hit a grand slam to highlight a six-run second inning for the Twins.

Northern Lakes is scheduled to play the Spokane Crew tonight in its second game of pool play.
