Robbie W. Lewis, of Kalispell, passed away on June 29, 2020, at the age of 87.
She was born in west Texas during the Depression years. She loved school and was known by her classmates to be an avid reader. After graduating high school, Robbie worked as a telegraph operator for Western Union until she met and married Donald Lewis. The couple moved to Kalispell and made the Flathead Valley their home.
Robbie took an interest in the community and volunteered in many different efforts. During the 1970s and ‘80s, she volunteered at Elrod Elementary School, Head Start, and the Rape Crisis Line while also studying social work at Flathead Valley Community College and Montana State University. She opened her home and became a “second mom” to many young people in the community and also a foster parent for the Child and Family Services Department.
In 1985, she began a 15-year career at AAA Montana from which she retired in 2000. She then served as an educational assistant at Trinity Lutheran School and also worked as secretary for the Kalispell Church of Christ until she was 85.
Robbie was a strong Christian and devoted mother. Her greatest joy was being involved in church activities and seeing her children grow in their faith as adults. She was a proud grandma and continued to nurture her relationships with those people she had mentored as young people.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings.
She is survived by her brother Roy Melburn Johnston and his wife Caruth; her children, Wayne Lewis and his wife Jan, Tony Lewis, and Donna O’Rear and her husband Lee; grandchildren, Chris Lewis and his wife Emily, Kira Huffard and her husband Steven, Tiffany Mitchell and her husband Joel, Reilly O’Rear and his wife Alicia, and Paige O’Rear; and five great-grandchildren.
Donations in memory of Robbie can be made to the Albuquerque Christian Children’s Home, 5700 Winter Haven Road NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120.
