Both Columbia Basin summer baseball squads were in action this weekend on the road.

Columbia Basin Riverdogs fell in its weekend opener on Friday to NW Diamond Sports, 10-7, despite a late surge in the bottom of the fifth inning. Down 10-1, the Riverdogs’ big push late in the game just wasn’t enough. Peyton Juarez led the team from the plate, finishing 2-2 with a pair of RBIs, a double and a triple.

In another high-scoring, tightly-contested game, the Riverdogs fell just short in their 10-9 defeat against Mound Time on Saturday. After cutting the deficit to just one in the fifth inning, the Riverdogs were unable to bring in the tying run in the six-inning defeat. Asher Lindgren, Juarez and Jett Nelson each had a pair of hits in the game.

Carson Janke helped the Riverdogs to a big 12-0 win over the Shelton Climbers on Saturday, allowing just two hits and no runs from the mound. Janke finished with four strikeouts as well. Three Riverdogs players finished with multiple hits in the win, while Nelson led the team with three RBIs.

In their final game of the weekend on Sunday, the Riverdogs grabbed the narrow win over Northwest Athletics, 3-2. Up 3-1 heading into the top of the seventh inning, the Riverdogs held off the tying run to grab the win. Nelson led the team from the plate, finishing 2-3 with one RBI.

The Central Washington Spuds returned to action on Thursday, falling to the Bombers BBC 9-0.

The Bombers scored almost every inning. Clayton Kellogg picked up the lone hit for the Spuds in the defeat.

The Spuds would pick up their first win of the summer on Friday, taking down FCA Black 15, 8-3. An early 3-0 and a late four-run inning helped the Spuds pick up the five-inning win. Kamden Kuykendall and Zach Elizalde lead the team with a pair of RBIs apiece in the win.

Caldwell Baseball Club Silver Wolves took down the Spuds in their first game on Saturday, 11-6. A four-run first inning wasn’t enough to hold on to the lead for long as the Silver Wolves used a big push late to pull away for good. Kuykendall led the Spuds from the plate with a double and a triple.

The Spuds lost to Wilder BBC 12-2 in their final game of the weekend. Trailing 3-2 after the third inning, nine runs over the fifth and sixth would push the comeback out of reach. Kuykendall picked up the sole hit for the Spuds in the defeat.
