Former WSU star Hristova signs pro deal in Poland

SPOKANE — After being rescheduled from its usual end-of-June date to the last weekend in August, the massive Hoopfest tournament in downtown Spokane has been canceled for 2020 due to concerns about increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases in the region.

Tournament director Matt Santangelo announced the decision Monday.

“Under the continued guidance of the Spokane Regional Health District, Hoopfest 2020 will not take place as previously planned,” Santangelo announced in a press release. “The rising number of COVID-19 cases has made Hoopfest 2020 unplayable for the first time in its storied 31-year history. We are disappointed and understand if you are, too.”

Although half-court games on the streets of downtown Spokane won’t happen, there will be a virtual event for those who have registered, or who wish to sign up. The challenges, drills and contests of Hoopfest HomeCourt may be competed between Aug. 20 and 23 to earn this year’s player shirts and championship shirts.
