COVID surge relents slightly

SANDPOINT — Another 47 cases of novel coronavirus, two of which emerged in Bonner County, were recorded in the region, the Panhandle Health District said on Tuesday.
The new cases bring the total number of cases in North Idaho to 914, 900 of which are lab-confirmed.
Another 14 are classified as probable, which means a person meets a clinical and epidemiological criteria, but whose condition lacks confirmatory lab testing. It could also involve a person meeting presumptive laboratory evidence and either clinical criteria or epidemiological evidence, according to the PHD.
Kootenai County, meanwhile, accrued 42 new cases, bringing the total number in that county to 778 cases since the onset of the outbreak. Benewah County has logged 22 cases over the course of the panddemic, while Shoshone county has seen 12 cases, according to Panhandle Health.
Boundary County’s case count held at eight cases on Tuesday. An additional 14 cases involve patients whose primary county of residence is undetermined.
The virus, which causes COVID-19, has caused 29 hospitalizations since the pandemic began and nine remain hospitalized.
The health district said 359 Panhandle residents are no longer being monitored for the coronavirus, the health district said.
In Kootenai County, there are 477 active cases and one fatality. Bonner County has 51 active cases, while Shoshone County has 11 active cases. Boundary and Benewah counties have seven and five active cases, respectively. Four of the undetermined cases also remain active, the health district said in a post to Facebook on Tuesday.
The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare reported 316 new confirmed or probable cases of coronavirus on Tuesday, pushing the statewide total to 11,718 cases. The virus has claimed the lives of 103 Idahoans, Health & Welfare said.
The Northeast Tri-County Health District in Washington state reported two new cases — one in Pend Oreille County and one in Stevens County — bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 46. Stevens County has accumulated 29 cases during the pandemic, while Pend Oreille County has accumulated 13. Ferry County has had four cases, one of which was ultimately fatal. A total of 23 new cases emerged in the tri-county area over the last two weeks, according to NETCHD.
Cases in Montana continue to surge, according to state public health officials.
The state tallied 109 new confirmed cases, resulting in a total of 1,952 cases. Lincoln County’s cases climbed to 40 cases on Tuesday. Sanders County has zero cases, according to the Montana State Department of Public Health.
