One dead, two hospitalized after collision

ROCK ISLAND — One man died and two other people were injured in a two-vehicle collision Saturday evening on state Route 28 near Rock Island in Douglas County.

The two injured were residents of Quincy. Law enforcement did not disclose the name or residence of the person who died at the scene.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. Saturday, a westbound 2001 Nissan Maxima driven by Jesus Ibarra Barragan, 41, of Quincy, drifted to the right shoulder, overcorrected and crossed the center line, according to law enforcement. The vehicle collided with an eastbound 2015 Chevrolet Colorado driven by Zachary Turner, 30, of Quincy, which was sent over the guardrail and came to rest on the south shoulder of the highway.

A 36-year-old passenger in Ibarra Barragan’s vehicle died at the scene, according to law enforcement. As of Sunday evening, officer were still attempting to contact the deceased’s next of kin.

Ibarra Barragan and Turner were transported to Central Washington Hospital.

Ibarra Barragan was charged with vehicular homicide and vehicular assault, according to law enforcement.

All three were wearing seat belts.
