NEW THIS DIGEST:
AP Poll-Virus Outbreak-Schools: Few Americans believe schools should return to normal operations this fall, a new poll says, even as President Donald Trump insists that’s what parents and students want. The poll, conducted by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs, finds that only 1 in 10 Americans say daycare centers, schools and universities should start the upcoming school year like any other. Most agree that mask requirements and other safety measures are necessary to reopen, and at least 2 in 10 say in-person instruction shouldn’t happen at all. UPCOMING Wednesday, photos.
US Virus Outbreak-Leaving New York: New Yorkers anxious after weathering the worst of the coronavirus pandemic are fueling a boom in home sales and rentals around the picturesque towns and wooded hills to the north. Real estate brokers and agents describe a red-hot market recently, with many house hunters able to work from home. UPCOMING Wednesday, photos, video.

GENERAL
US--Virus Outbreak-Economic Hardship-Poll: As the coronavirus pandemic drags on, a new poll from NORC at the University of Chicago finds it is having different effects on Americans’ economic well-being. For some, the virus has meant lost income or struggles to pay bills on time — particularly among Hispanic, Black and younger Americans. Others, most notably college educated and older Americans, have transitioned to working from home or have experienced the nation’s economic decline through a dip in the value of their investments. SENT Tuesday, photos.
US Virus Outbreak-Teachers: As pressure mounts for teachers to return to their classrooms this fall, concerns about the pandemic are pushing many toward alternatives, including early retirement, as some mobilize to delay school reopenings in areas hardest hit by the coronavirus. Virus Outbreak-Restaurants-Economic Impact: WASHINGTON -- America’s restaurants helped revive the U.S. economy after the Great Recession. This time? Don’t count on it. As the nation struggles to rebound from a now-resurgent coronavirus, restaurants seem much less likely to deliver an economic boost. They’ve suffered a heavy blow from lockdowns and occupancy restrictions. And it’s far from clear that many Americans will readily return to dining out. The damage extends far beyond darkened kitchens and dining rooms to the farms and wineries that supply them and the shopping centers that have increasingly depended upon restaurants as economic anchors. By Paul Wiseman. UPCOMING Wednesday, photos.
Virus Outbreak-One Good Thing–Feeding Brooklyn: A Brooklyn chef has gotten funding from a food insecurity nonprofit to buy the food which she then prepares into 1,500 meals per weekend.
