Sexual assault suspect enters not guilty plea

SANDPOINT — A Bonner County man accused of holding a woman against her will and sexually assaulting her earlier this year pleaded not guilty in 1st District Court last week, records show.
Jonathan Richard Beckley’s plea sets the stage for a jury trial in November.
Beckley was originally charged with two counts of forcible rape, first-degree kidnapping and forcible penetration with a foreign object.
However, Judge Patrick McFadden ruled there was insufficient evidence to sustain the rape charges following a preliminary hearing in Bonner County Magistrate Court last month, according to court documents. McFadden bound Beckley over to stand trial on charges of first-degree kidnapping and forcible penetration with a foreign object.
Beckley, 44, is free on a $100,000 surety bond while the case is pending.
Beckley was sought for arrest after a 46-year-old woman told Bonner County Sheriff’s deputies she was raped by him at his Samuels home in February. The woman told investigators she did not initially report the crime because she feared Beckley.
Beckley, a probable cause affidavit alleges, summoned the woman to his detached shop and she saw that her massage table had been set up.
Beckley allegedly bound the woman’s hands to the table with duct tape and a grocery bag. She was also taped to the table by her neck, stomach and ankles before being sexually assaulted by Beckley, the affidavit alleges.
The woman, who said she believed she was drugged during the incident, managed to free herself from her bindings the following day, hid in Beckley’s home and made her escape after he left the residence, according to court documents.
The woman’s mobile phone, which contained images of her injuries, was taken as evidence, as was the massage table, which still had bits of tape adhered to it, court records indicate.
