BONNERS FERRY — From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Thursday, July 30, Second Harvest Inland Empire emergency food distributors will be conducting another drive through food distribution at the fairgrounds.

The non-profit organization works hard to fight hunger by bringing community resources together. The organization has been helping communities with hunger relief efforts since 1971.

Since that time, they have distributed over 2 million pounds of free food each month.

Second Harvest helps communities in 26 counties scattered across Eastern Washington state and North Idaho, including Boundary County.

The July 30 distribution will contain donated beef that is specially cut and packaged for Second Harvest by a Washington state beef processing plant located in Toppenish, Wash.

“The Beef Counts program, which began in 2010, provides high-quality beef protein to people in need in the Inland Northwest through Second Harvest’s Mobile Market free food distributions,” said Emily Kanally, Senior Vice President of Nutrition Education. “Beef Counts raises funds all year from Washington’s cattle ranchers, feeders and consumers.”

About $50,000 worth of beef is donated to Second Harvest each year.

Second Harvest staff advise participants to open their trunks when they are in line, so that volunteers can place the items into the trunks; therefore, limiting issues with participants leaving their vehicles. Cars will enter on the east end of the fairgrounds and the truck will be on the west end of the fairgrounds.

This month’s distribution truck sponsors include local churches, individual donors, Bonners Ferry Veterinary Clinic, Thrivent Financial, and Second Harvest.
