BREMERTON, Wash. (AP) — A woman accused of murder for stabbing her boyfriend to death during a 2019 snowstorm and then trying to cover up the scene pleaded guilty last week to a reduced charge, after preparing to argue at trial she acted in self-defense.

The Kitsap Sun reports that Brandie Elaine Williams, 51, is expected to be sentenced August 24 to 10 years in prison. Williams was originally charged with second-degree murder for the death of David Joseph Krazel, 59, but pleaded guilty July 15 to a count of second-degree manslaughter.

In addition to arguing that Williams acted in self-defense, her attorneys pointed out what they saw as critical errors by authorities, including the county Coroner’s Office failing to save x-rays taken at Krazel’s autopsy. The office blamed a computer error.

Deputy Prosecutor Tim Lewis said the resolution was difficult to accept but reasonable. He said Williams was willing to be sentenced to slightly less prison time for pleading guilty to manslaughter than she would have likely faced if convicted of murder.
