COEUR d’ALENE — Anyone in the Hayden Estates neighborhoods on Sunday evening probably heard sounds of a rock and roll-infused celebration crescendoing and cascading off the mountains.

Greg Lewis and the Canfield Blues Band played a neighborhood bash as a way to bring people together after a long separation period, help neighbors connect with new friends and raise funds and food for the food bank and Kootenai Humane Society.

"It was so lovely to see the neighbors coming out to enjoy each other’s company after such a long time of staying at home," keyboardist and vocalist Teri Grubbs said Tuesday. "No one seemed to mind the chilly weather. They just wanted community with each other. The band felt the same way."

The event brought in approximately 150 pounds of food and a $50 cash donation for the food bank. A 50-pound bag of dog food, a 25-pound bag of cat food, more than a dozen cans of dog food and more than $50 in cash and check donations were collected for the humane society.

"I was amazed at the level of interest from the neighbors and how they were anxious to go somewhere and get out of the house," said drummer Steve Honig. "Also, I was pleased to see so many neighbors meet for the first time even though they’ve lived in the area for years."

The event was held on the property of Lisa Callahan, whom the band gave a big shout-out for use of her place.

Greg Lewis and the Canfield Blues Band played free of charge, so all proceeds went to help feed and care for people and animals in the community.

The desire for a good steak and a night of dancing planted a seed that would grow into a full day of awareness, education and focus on North Idaho's farming community: Farm Fest. "Let’s celebrate agriculture in our community," Kootenai-Shoshone County Farm Bureau board member Kim Edmondson said Wednedsay. With a tagline of "Keep it country," the inaugural Farm Fest will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in Buildings 1, 2 and 3 at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds, 4056 N. Government Way.
