Plains hosts unique ceremony

Drivers honking their vehicle horns as a means of applause was one of the unique things about the Plains High School graduation ceremony.
That was part of the scene for the Class of 2020 as its members received its diplomas and shared their thoughts on the unusual ending to the school year on Sunday, May 24.
Twenty-eight Horsemen and Trotters gathered with friends and family members in the parking lot between the school and football field.
Superintendent Thom Chisholm remarked “there probably had never been an outdoors graduation, but the weather was perfect for it.”
Class member Dakota Butcher gave the welcome and led the Pledge of Allegiance while Todd Brouillette was the graduation speaker.
Valedictorian Kylee Altmiller and salutatorian Audrey Brown each addressed their classmates. Altmiller and Charlie Rehbein each accepted the C.L.A.S.S. awards.
According to information from the school, 13 of the 28 grads are planning on entering the work force and 13 were going to college, including seven attending a four-year school and five attending a two-year institution. Two planned on entering the military.
Nine seniors did well in scholarships, receiving 42 with a value of $176,482.
