OLYMPIA — New guidelines for restarting recreational sporting events were released last week by Gov. Jay Inslee for counties in Phases 2 and 3 of the “Safe Start” reopening plan.

Team practices are allowed to resume for areas currently in Phase 2 of the reopening process. Practices are limited to groups of five players or fewer on the field, with groups and players remaining five feet apart. No contact is allowed between players and coaches.

Spectators, including families, are not permitted on the sidelines for practices during Phase 2. Games for recreational and youth leagues are not allowed to resume until Phase 3.

Outdoor recreational activities, including beaches and camping, must remain limited to five or fewer people outside of one’s household.

Teams and leagues in areas moving into Phase 3 can now resume games, with gatherings limited to no more than 50 people. Complexes with more than multiple fields may have 50 or fewer people per field.

Offices for each recreational league must adhere to workplace reopening guidelines set forth by state officials in the workplace reopening process. New guidelines released late last week do not apply to any school-affiliated or collegiate sports and athletics programs.

Outdoor recreational activities, including public pools and gyms, are allowed to now reopen in Phase 3 to no more than 50 percent of full capacity. Gatherings must remain fewer than 50 people.
