Car show rocks Mineral County

Even with social distancing, cooler temperatures, and entries limited to Montana only, the 21st Old School House Rock Car Show was held and enjoyed by locals and visitors once again.

Mike Curtin, president and organizer, was happy with the turnout because it was a close shave if the event was even going to take place.

“So many obstacles we had to tackle but we had a very good show with about 50 entries on a year when everything had to fall into place. We had good vendors and it’s been a good day despite the scattered rain.”

Co-chair David Mirisch was all smiles especially during the awards ceremony where the scholarships were presented to three high school seniors.

These grants have been important for the committee to give out over the past several years as the car-group has admiration for older cars almost as much as they do the youth of Mineral County.

“The committee went over many applications from all three schools but these three stood out.”

Recipients of $500 each went to Emmah Baughman of Alberton, Kylee Thompson of St. Regis and Jacob Lipinski from Superior. All three will continue their education at Montana schools.

A little more than 50 entries covered the Trail West Bank and Mineral County Courthouse lawns.

Only entries were permitted from Montana to prevent the possible spread of COVID-19. In past years, entries came from Idaho, Washington and British Columbia.

Much like the Trail Rail Run held the same day in St. Regis, restricting entries to Big Sky participants was a condition the event could be held in 2020.

“The committee consists of 15 people who have been diligently planning today’s event for the last six months. They arrived at 5 this morning and have stayed all day helping in every capacity when called upon to do,” Mirisch said.
