MOSES LAKE - At least two people associated with a Moses Lake senior living facility have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the second long-term care facility in Grant County with confirmed cases.

Brookdale Hearthstone Moses Lake has confirmed that “more than one” person at the facility has tested positive for COVID-19, which the state Department of Social and Health Services reported late Monday. Communications staff with Brookdale declined to specify how many people had tested positive, whether residents were also sickened with the coronavirus, whether there were still outstanding tests or whether anyone had been hospitalized.

The facility has notified staff, residents and their family members about the outbreak, Brookdale staff said in a statement.

“Brookdale’s top priority is the health and safety of our residents, patients, and associates,” the statement said. “We are diligently monitoring our residents and associates for signs and symptoms, and we continue to work directly with local health officials to help ensure our residents and associates have the appropriate and necessary medical support.”

Brookdale said that it is closely following established policies and procedures for containing contagious illnesses and is following guidance from local and federal health officials.

“We have detailed protocols and plans in place to respond to this situation, prioritizing the health and wellness of our residents,” the statement continued.

Brookdale did not elaborate on how the facility intended to prevent further spread of the virus among residents and staff.

In mid-March, Brookdale stated that, in addition to its compliance with federal, state and local guidelines, it had suspended all group outings and is barring groups of three or more coming into the facility, except for sales tours, family or third-party medical and clinical providers.

“Since reports of COVID-19 in the United States were confirmed, and in accordance with CDC guidelines, Brookdale has proactively implemented precautionary measures throughout our communities,” the statement said.
