The Bonner County Sportsmen’s Foundation recently selected three $500 scholarship winners for their 2020 scholarships.

The scholarships are awarded in honor of Leo Hadley, and other outstanding sportsmen and women. Passing a hunter education class, being a Bonner County resident, showing an interest in the outdoors, and completing community service are some of the requirements to qualify for the scholarships.

This year’s $500 award winners are:

• Madelynn Rusho, Priest River, graduating from Priest River Lamanna High School. Rusho is a hunter, fisherman, and a member of the Coeur d’Alene Skeet and Trap’s Hayden Longshots youth shooting team.

She has placed as one of the top ten female shooters in Idaho for the last five years, as well as being high overall female for Idaho during her last state shoot. She also won the skeet shooting over all other 100 plus shooters. She is a 4-H member, and in the top ten percent of her graduating class.

She wants to get a bachelor’s degree in fisheries biology, with a minor in wildlife biology. Her hope is to eventually work for the Idaho Department of Fish & Game.

• Bradley O’Brien, Oldtown, also graduating from Priest River Lamanna High School.

O’Brien is also an avid hunter, fisherman, and a 4-H member. He has played high school football, and also won awards for his trap shooting. He plans to attend the University of Idaho and major in wildlife resources or a closely related major. He hopes to get summer jobs with Idaho Department of Fish & Game, and then pursue work with them after he graduates, as he would like to stay in Idaho.

• Elizabeth Geisinger, Sandpoint, graduating from Alpha and Omega Publications, a home school educational program.

Geisinger, also known as Lizzy, has been a member of the Sandpoint Junior Rifle Team for many years, and is an accomplished shooter. She likes music and art as well as hunting, fishing, hiking, and horseback riding.

Geisinger and her family have served as volunteers at many Bonner County Sportsmen’s activities including the Gun ‘n’ Horn Show, and the Youth Weekend at the Range. She is also an active volunteer at her church. She plans to attend Northwest University in Kirkland, Washington.
