SANDPOINT — Four new confirmed cases of novel coronavirus were tallied in northern Idaho, the Panhandle Health District said on Tuesday.

There are 130 cases, with 103 cases in Kootenai County and seven cases in Bonner County. The health district said Benewah has 11 cases and nine more cases have an undetermined county of primary residency.

The virus, which causes COVID-19, has not been detected in Boundary or Shoshone counties, according to the health district. The virus is blamed for one death in Kootenai County on Monday.

The health district said in a post to social media that Kootenai County has 21 active cases, while Benewah and Bonner counties have four and two active cases, respectively.

“This situation can be stressful and frightening and we realize all of you want to protect yourselves and your loved ones. If you have questions, please ask and we will do our best to provide answers. We are in this together,” the health district said in the post to Facebook on Tuesday.

The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare said there were 87 new confirmed or probable cases of coronavirus on Tuesday, bumping the statewide total to 3,540 cases, 88 of which have proved fatal.

The Northeast Tri-County Health District in Washington state was notified of one new case in Stevens County. There are 20 cases in the three counties, with 16 in Stevens County, three in Pend Oreille County and one in Ferry County.

“While we have not seen a large increase in cases in our tri-county areas yet, there is growing concern as new reports are showing that case numbers are increasing in Eastern Washington, particularly in our neighboring county of Spokane,” NETCHD said in a statement.

The health district notes Spokane County has reported 273 new positive cases since June 1.

“With the uptick in cases we want to encourage people to stay local and avoid traveling across county lines if possible, to prevent bringing the virus back home,” the health district said.

The state of Montana reported five new cases, elevating the total number of confirmed cases to 614. There are seven cases in Lincoln County and none in Sanders County.
