MOSES LAKE — A Moses Lake man was taken into custody Sunday afternoon after reportedly attempting to break through the adjoining wall of his apartment into a neighbor’s residence, according to police officials.

Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Marina Drive around noon Sunday for a report that Anthony Garcia, 45, was acting erratically. Garcia was reportedly uncooperative with police.

Law enforcement discovered that Garcia had an outstanding warrant for his arrest related to failure to register as a sex offender and received clearance from the Grant County Jail to book him despite COVID-19 restrictions. Due to his history of violent crimes, the Tactical Response Team was called out to the scene, according to police Cpt. Mike Williams.

Garcia’s residence was surrounded and neighbors put on lockdown for just over three hours as police attempted to negotiate with the suspect, according to police officials. Garcia eventually exited his residence around 3:30 p.m. and was arrested. No weapons were found in the suspect’s possession, Williams said.

In addition to his outstanding Warrant, Garcia will be charged with residential burglary, malicious mischief and resisting arrest, Williams added.
