Coronavirus: 66 reported over the weekend

GRANT COUNTY — Sixty-six new cases of the coronavirus were reported in Grant County since Friday, including 31 new cases in the Mattawa area, 15 in Moses Lake, nine in Royal City, six in the Quincy area and one each in Soap Lake and Ephrata, according to Grant County Health District.

The Mattawa area now has the second highest number of confirmed cases in the county, despite its relatively small size. It has more cases than the Quincy area for the first time since testing for the virus began.

In total, there were 471 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in Grant County as of Monday evening.

Seven people sickened with the novel coronavirus are currently hospitalized.

As of Monday, Moses Lake had 140 confirmed cases, the Quincy area had 115, and the Mattawa area had 124.

Mattawa looks to the legislature to make filling agency easier

To combat the difficulties Mattawa has had filling its Civil Service Commission, the town is deploying municipal lawyer Katherine Kenison to lobby the legislature to simplify the process during the upcoming legislative session.
