GEORGE – Since 1957, a Fourth of July celebration has been held every year at the George Community Hall. Even with COVID-19, this year is no exception.

While the celebration will still be held, it is being modified from its normal form because of state COVID-19 health regulations. Instead of events taking place all day at the George Community Hall, only two events will happen – a patriotic observance at 10:30 a.m. and fireworks at 10 p.m.

The patriotic observance and program will start at 10:30 a.m. at the stage in the George Community Park. The program will include a flag presentation, a twenty-one gun salute, the ringing of the Freedom Bell, the Pledge of Allegiance, the performance of “The Star Spangled Banner” and community patriotic singing. There will be addresses by state Senator June Warnick and state Reps. Alex Ybarra and Tom Dent, with a keynote address by 2020 gubernatorial candidate Lorin Culp, of Republic.

Because of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, participants are asked to use proper social distancing. Attendees should also bring their own lawn chairs.
