Spring bear season closed last week and Danner Haskins, 17, waited until the end to bag the bruin he wanted.

Haskins has grown up packing a rifle or bow in his hands with

this being his fifth bear.

“Seven or eight, I’m thinking” when it comes to elk he’s bagged. Mostly bulls, too,” Haskins said. “Two antelope and about eight deer.”

Being born in Superior near Tarkio with a family of hard workers who are also robust competitors, it’s in his DNA to follow suit with ethics and a positive attitude.

After graduating from Superior High School in 2021, Haskins plans on taking Business Management at the University of Montana Western in Dillon.

As of the time of this article, the decision to hold the Mineral County Fair has yet to be determined, however, the 4-H sale will still take place as the kids have been raising stock to sell long before COVID-19.

“It may be online, but it’s going to take place,” Haskins said.

He’ll be entering his fourth steer. He’s also raised and sold six pigs over the years. Haskins is already meeting with his coaches and football team to discuss this year’s season, which will be his fourth.

This is along with his four years on the basketball and golf teams to boot. His younger sister, Darby, just took eighth place in the state for barrel racing in Baker.

For those wondering about younger generations taking the reins eventually, one doesn’t need to look very far to see the quality of kids being raised in our own back yard.
