Koocanusa Resort announces derby winners

The Koocanusa Resort’s 18th annual fishing derby attracted 253 people and 87 boats. Total payout for the recent 2020 derby was $4,252 between the rainbow trout and kokanee divisions.

First place in the rainbow trout division went to Curt Kegel, who caught a 10-pound, 6.6-ounce fish to claim the $1,417 prize. Finishing second was Charlie Koch, who caught a 10-pound, 6.2-ounce fish to claim the $1,012 prize. Third place honors went to Piper Mervzweiller, who caught a 10-pound fish to claim the $800 prize. Darryl Judkins won fourth-place honors with an 8-pound, 7.3-ounce rainbow to claim the $405 prize, Joedy Friemel won fifth-place honors with an 8-pound, 7-ounce fish to claim the $243 prize, and Bill Moe claimed sixth-place honors with an 8-pound, 5-ounce fish and the $162 prize.

Peggy George was the top angler in the kokanee division, catching a 4-pound, 14-ounce fish and claim the $506 prize. In second was Charlie Carvey, who caught a 4-pound,1-ounce kokanee to claim the $304 prize. In third place was Kristy Whitney, who claimed a $203 prize with a 3-pound, 9-ounce fish.
