KELLOGG — It’s going to be a No-Go for the Silver Valley Community Market this year as COVID-19 claims yet another event in the Silver Valley.

What would have been the third year for the popular weekly summer event is going to have to wait until at least 2021.

Initially scheduled for the Kellogg City Park, the city decided it wasn’t quite comfortable with the event moving forward due to the large number of people who attend the event every week. After trying to figure out some alternate locations, including the idea of even moving the market outside Kellogg entirely, as well as gauging prospective vendors to see what their interest would be, it was determined that the market was going to have to take the year off.

“This is an incredibly hard decision for us to make but as of now, Idaho continues to remain in stage 4, and there are just too many unknowns,” said Community Market organizer Sarah Murphy.

All is not lost however, the Silver Valley Chamber still has plans to put on a few smaller events throughout the summer that will allow shoppers and vendors alike to get out and hopefully enjoy some of the fresher air and warm weather.

“The Chamber hopes to be able to have a pop-up market or two as advisable by public health advisers and possibly host the annual Cornhole Tournament,” Murphy said. “While those dates are yet to be determined, we are hopeful that we can provide an opportunity for the Silver Valley to get-together and celebrate community and small business in the very near future.”
