SANDPOINT — An Oldtown man accused of threatening a woman with a pistol and holding her against her will waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.

Chance Ryan Bacon’s waiver clears the way for his arraignment in 1st District Court on March 9. He is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and second-degree kidnapping.

Bacon, 24, is free on a $60,000 surety bond while the case is pending, according to court documents.

Bacon is accused of threatening the woman with a .40-caliber pistol during an argument at their home on Jan. 31, according to a probable cause affidavit. Bacon allegedly unloaded the gun, placed a single round in the chamber and pointed at her while ordering the woman into a bedroom.

Bacon allegedly documented the incident with a cellphone camera. The woman told Bonner County sheriff’s deputies that she feared she would be shot, according to court documents.

Bacon admitted breaking things inside the residence but denied a firearm was involved in the argument, the affidavit said.

Bacon consented to a search of his phone, which led to the discovery of the video of him threatening the woman, court documents indicate.
