KELLOGG — Kellogg High School will be hosting a special event next week for local high schoolers.

Junior Higher Education Day is an annual event organized by the Idaho Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (IACRAO) and is designed to give 11th-graders the opportunity to participate in a college fair that has college recruiters, as well as presentations on financial aid and scholarships.

“Kellogg High School is looking forward to this event and we hope that it can serve the students and families in our valley well,” said Rachel Weaver, KHS counselor. “Our students and community had the opportunity to explore CTE (career technical education) options at KHS in February, and we look forward to bringing university options to the valley for our students and families to explore this month.”

Juniors from the Kellogg, Wallace and Mullan school districts will come to KHS during the day, but a new addition to this year’s event will be an evening college fair that is open for all students, parents and community members to attend.

Representatives from North Idaho College, University of Idaho, Boise State University, Idaho State University, Lewis-Clark State College and Brigham Young University-Idaho will be in attendance to give participants an opportunity to meet with the college representatives and ask any questions they may have.

Weaver is excited for the event and hopes that the community takes advantage of the informational opportunity that is being presented to them.

“We really hope families and community members take advantage of having these institutions in our community,” Weaver said. “Students who are not juniors who are interested in attending one of these schools, this is a great opportunity to get your questions answered and find the college that is right for you. Parents who have questions about the various colleges, paying for college, or what the college experience will be like for your child, take advantage of having these representatives here in the valley. Community members who are interested in possibly going back to school, now is your chance to get more information.”

Junior Higher Education Day is Monday, March 9, at Kellogg High School and the open community event will run from 4:30 to 6:15 p.m., with a Q&A session beginning at 5:15 p.m.

For more information, contact Rachel Weaver at 208-784-1371.
