A 44-year-old Kootenai County man is in jail for allegedly groping a teenager and sending sexually explicit images to the boy’s cellphone.

Chad L. Emond, a former construction worker, is being held on $25,000 bail after being charged Monday with two felony counts of sexual abuse of a child and one count of disseminating harmful material to minors, a misdemeanor.

Deputies arrested Emond on a warrant Saturday and he had his first appearance Monday in Coeur d’Alene’s First District Court.

Emond allegedly befriended a 15-year-old because he was an acquaintance of the boy’s parents. He’s accused of groping the boy at least twice, and told him he would perform sex on the teenager and sent images and videos of sexual acts to the boy’s cellphone beginning last summer, according to police.

The teen told authorities that he helped Emond work on a pickup truck and that Emond “would grab him and demonstrated that he would poke him with a drill.”

The teenager told deputies that the harassment made him feel “uncomfortable to the point that he didn’t want to be around him,” and that he feared Emond, according to a deputy’s report.

The teenager shared with authorities sexual-oriented text messages between Emond and the teen.

Sexual abuse of a child carries a penalty of up to 25 years in prison.

Emond will have a preliminary hearing in Coeur d’Alene Magistrate Court within 14 days if he stays in jail and within 21 days if he posts bail.
